Connect ChatGPT

Step by step to connect ChatGPT to your Memberfy community through developer mode, create the connector, authorize with your account, use it in a conversation, and what's different from Claude.

In ChatGPT, third-party MCP servers come in through developer mode. You turn the mode on, create a connector with the Memberfy address, authorize with your account, and the connector shows up in your conversations.

The address and these steps are also in Memberfy itself. In My Account › AI assistants (/account?tab=assistants), or in Settings › AI assistants (owner and admin), the Connect an assistant block shows the MCP server address with a Copy button, and the steps for each assistant: Claude, ChatGPT and Claude Code / Cursor (with the command and the file snippet, under Copy the snippet).

Before you start

  • A ChatGPT account on a plan that offers developer mode. In company accounts, the ChatGPT workspace admin may need to enable it.
  • A Memberfy account, with a role in the community you want to connect.
  • The server address: https://api.memberfy.net/mcp.

Step by step

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings (in the menu under your name).
  2. Go to Apps & Connectors and open Advanced settings.
  3. Turn on Developer mode. ChatGPT warns that developer connectors aren't verified by it: that's the case for any MCP server outside the official list.
  4. Go back to Apps & Connectors and click Create.
  5. Fill in:
    • Name: Memberfy;
    • Description: for example, Runs my Memberfy community;
    • MCP Server URL: https://api.memberfy.net/mcp;
    • Authentication: OAuth.
  6. Confirm that you trust the application and click Create.
  7. ChatGPT opens the Memberfy window. If asked, sign in with your email and password.
  8. On the authorization screen, choose the community, check what ChatGPT will be able to do and click Allow. See what the screen shows.
  9. Back in ChatGPT, the connector appears with its list of tools.

ChatGPT renames these menus often. If you can't find them, search for "developer mode" in ChatGPT's help. The address and the authentication type (OAuth) don't change.

Using it in a conversation

  1. Start a new conversation.
  2. In the + button of the message box, choose Developer mode and select the Memberfy connector.
  3. Test it: "Which Memberfy community are you connected to, and with what role?".

ChatGPT asks for your approval before tools that write; that approval is ChatGPT's own. On top of that, the Memberfy tools that touch money or delete always return a summary first and only act after your yes, in two calls, which works in ChatGPT the same way as in Claude. Everything else runs on the first call.

Ready-made recipes

In Claude, Memberfy offers eight ready-made recipes in a menu (see which). In ChatGPT, as of this article, the connector uses Memberfy's tools but doesn't show that menu: ask in your own words or copy the request from one of the Recipes. The result is the same.

Connected ChatGPT before October 6, 2026? The tools now have English names (create_post instead of criar_post). A conversation that was already open may keep the old list: open a new conversation. If the old names keep showing up, refresh the connector in Settings › Apps & Connectors.

Two communities

Create a second connector with another name (Memberfy · School) and the same address, and choose the other community when authorizing. In the conversation, select only the connector for the community you're working in.

Disconnecting

  • In ChatGPT: in Apps & Connectors, open the connector and remove it.
  • In Memberfy: My Account › AI assistants (/account?tab=assistants), Disconnect. It cuts access immediately. See Authorize and disconnect.
