Ranking

The community's gamification. How many points each action is worth, the nine levels, the ranking periods, the Ranking space, how to turn on the global ranking and where to change the points.

The Ranking turns participation into points. Each action is worth a number of points, points add up to levels, and the Ranking space shows who takes part the most. Gamification is already turned on when the community is created.

The periods

The ranking can be viewed for This Week (7 days), This Month (30 days) and All Time. Besides the community's General Ranking, a Ranking space can show the Section Ranking: participation in that section only.

The Ranking space

The space shows the Leaderboard, the Top Contributors, My Ranking (the viewer's position, with progress toward the next level) and an explanation of how points and levels work.

Turning it on and off

In Settings › General, the Global Ranking switch ("Enable the global ranking leaderboard for all members").

Changing the points

Under Members › Gamification, the owner and admins turn points on or off and change how much each action is worth. The new value applies from the next action on. See Gamification.

Step by step: create the Ranking space

Role: owner or admin.

  1. Add Space › Ranking, Next.
  2. Title (e.g. Ranking), icon and visibility (usually Members).
  3. Create Space.

Examples with numbers

A student in one week. Completes 4 lessons (100), comments 6 times (30), replies to 5 comments (15), logs in on 7 days (7) and receives 10 likes (20): 172 points, moving from level 1 to level 2.

An event. Whoever creates the event earns 20; each attendee, 20.

Frequently asked questions

Are points worth money? No. They're recognition. If you want to give prizes, arrange the prize with the community (a free month, a gift).

Can I reset the ranking? The This Week and This Month periods already restart on their own.

Do staff members appear in the ranking? Yes, like anyone else who takes part.
