Pay now
The button that lets a member with an overdue renewal pay the open period right away, by saved card, another card, PIX or boleto, with the add-ons included, and be up to date again.
When a renewal isn't paid (a declined card, an expired PIX), the subscription becomes past due. Pay now fixes that from the Billing page itself, without buying the plan again and without creating a new subscription.
What it's for
Before Pay now, someone who fell behind had to subscribe again: a new subscription was created, the old one was left hanging as past due, and the history was lost. With it, the same subscription is up to date again, with the same date, the same coupon, the same add-ons and the same contract.
| Situation | Without Pay now | With Pay now |
|---|---|---|
| The card expired at renewal | Subscribe again | Pay the period with another card |
| The renewal PIX expired | Subscribe again | Generate a new PIX for the same period |
| The boleto wasn't paid in time | Subscribe again | Pay with the saved card, right away |
How it works
When it shows up
Only on a plan subscription that is past due. Under Billing, it shows "The renewal was not paid. Pay to keep your access." and the Pay now button.
An add-on billed together with the plan doesn't have its own Pay now: it is paid with the plan ("This add-on is paid together with its plan. Use "Pay now" on the plan subscription.").
What is charged
The plan's overdue period, with the add-ons billed with it, in a single payment ("Total (plan + extensions)"). Coupons and downsell discounts that still apply are included as usual.
- With one overdue period, the period paid is the one that was open, from the date of the renewal that failed: the usual date stays the same.
- With more than one overdue period, the new period starts on the day of payment.
Ways to pay
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Saved card | Charged right away. Approved: "Payment approved. Your subscription is up to date." |
| Another card | The member types a new card, which becomes the card for the next renewal |
| PIX | The code shows on the page, valid for 24 hours. Once paid, the subscription is reactivated |
| Boleto | The boleto shows on the page. Once it clears, the subscription is reactivated |
Open PIX or boleto charges for the same subscription are canceled before the new one, so nobody pays twice.
Who can
The subscriber themselves, and the community's owner or admin, on their behalf, through the API.
Step by step
Role: the subscriber.
- Open Billing. The past-due subscription shows the notice and the amount ("Renewal: R$ 579.00 to pay").
- Click Pay now. The dialog explains: "Your plan's overdue period, with the extensions billed with it, in a single payment."
- Choose Saved card, Another card, PIX or Boleto.
- Confirm with Pay R$ 579.00.
- On the card, the answer comes right away. With PIX and boleto, pay the code; the page updates once the payment is confirmed.
What the team sees
- The subscription goes from Past Due to Active once the payment is confirmed.
- The payment goes into the statement as a sale, with the usual platform fee (6.99% + R$ 2.49 per order).
- The New sale notice arrives in the community's sales notices email.
How to guide the member
A message that solves most cases:
"Hi, Ana! Your plan's renewal didn't go through. To keep your access, go into the community, open Billing (under your name, in the menu) and click Pay now. You can use another card, PIX or boleto."
If she wants to change the card for future renewals, the card used in Another card already becomes the renewal card.
Timeline
| Moment | Subscription | What the member sees |
|---|---|---|
| The renewal fails | Past due | "The renewal was not paid. Pay to keep your access." |
| Clicks Pay now and chooses PIX | Past due | The code, valid for 24 hours |
| Pays the PIX | Active | The renewal disappears from the notice; next charge on the usual date |
| Chooses the card and it is approved | Active, right away | "Payment approved. Your subscription is up to date." |
| The card goes under review | Past due | "Payment under review…", until the answer arrives |
Examples with numbers
Growth Monthly + Coworking (R$ 579), card declined on the 20th. On the 22nd, Ana opens Billing, chooses Another card and pays R$ 579.00. The period paid is 11/20 to 12/20: the usual date. The new card now handles renewals. The community receives R$ 536.04, as in a normal renewal.
Student Monthly (R$ 49), three months unpaid. Bruno pays R$ 49.00 by PIX on March 5. Since more than one period was overdue, the new period starts on the 5th: the next charge is on April 5.
Common errors and how to fix them
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Only a past-due subscription can be paid now. | The subscription is up to date; there is nothing to pay |
| A card payment for this subscription is still being reviewed. Wait for the answer before trying again. | The payment processor is still checking the previous payment |
| Enter the card to pay with. | Another card was chosen without filling it in |
| This add-on is paid together with its plan. Use "Pay now" on the plan subscription. | They tried to pay the add-on on its own |
| We could not record the payment. Try again. | A temporary failure |
| Code unavailable, try again in a moment. | The PIX or boleto code is still being generated |
Frequently asked questions
Does Pay now charge a late fee or interest? No. It charges the amount for the period.
Does the renewal date change? With one overdue period, no. With more than one, the new period starts on the payment date.
What if the member pays the old PIX after generating a new one? The platform cancels the old code before generating the new one. If an old payment still comes in, it is recorded, and the Memberfy team takes care of the refund.
Does the member get an email from Pay now? The code shows on the page itself; the confirmation email arrives once the payment is approved.
In the API
POST /api/subscriptions/{id}/pay-now with paymentMethod (PIX, BOLETO, CREDIT_CARD), paymentMethodId or cardToken, and customerData for PIX and boleto. The response includes paid, status and, for PIX and boleto, the code in pendingRenewal. See Subscriptions.
